1. Rafael Nadal wins 12th Barcelona Open Tennis Title

  • Rafael Nadal has won 12th Barcelona Open Title in Longest ATP Match of 2021 after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas by 6-4, 6-7 (6/8), 7-5.
  • He secured his first title of the year and 87th of his career.
  • He will return to second position in the ATP rankings by climbing back above Daniil Medvedev after his marathon 3-hour 38-minute win.
  • Nadal’s 12 Barcelona victories are second only to his 13 Roland Garros trophies.

2. RBI caps tenure of Private Banks MD & CEO at 15 years

  • RBI has capped the tenure of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) of commercial banks to 15 years for the same incumbent
  • It will also be applicable to whole time directors (WTD)
  • Revised instructions will be applicable to all Private Sector Banks including Small Finance Banks (SFBs) and wholly owned subsidiaries of Foreign Banks
  • It will not be applicable to foreign banks operating as branches in India
  • Upper age limit for MD, CEO, WTDs: 70 years

3. RBI issues guidelines for appointment of statutory auditors of banks, NBFCs

  • RBI has issued guidelines for appointment of statutory auditors of banks (Commercial Banks excluding RRBs, UCBs) and non-banking finance companies (NBFCs), including housing finance companies
  • It will be applicable for financial year 2021-22 and onwards.
  • It will provide necessary instructions for appointment of SCAs/SAs.
  • Exception: Non-deposit taking NBFCs with asset size below Rs 1,000 crore have the option to continue with their extant procedure.

  • Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CMERI), Durgapur in collaboration with MSME-DI has indigenously developed Oxygen enrichment technology, effective for treating COVID-19 patients.
  • This unit can even deliver up to 70 LPM at a purity of around 30%.
  • CSIR-CMERI is a public engineering research and development institution
  • This institute is the only national level research institute in the field of mechanical engineering in India, founded in 1958

  • Former Managing Director of Maruti Suzuki, Jagdish Khattar (79 years) passed away, following a cardiac arrest
  • He is credited for establishing Maruti as India’s largest car company and served at Maruti Suzuki India Limited from 1993 to 2007
  • He joined Maruti in July 1993 as Director, and was eventually elevated as Managing Director in 1999.

  • DRDO has developed single crystal blades technology and supplied 60 of these blades to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) as part of their indigenous helicopter development program

  • Tamil Nadu Govt has decided to reopen Vedanta's oxygen manufacturing plant at Tuticorin after considering the urgent need for increased oxygen production
  • Govt will render power supply to the plant for the manufacture of 1050 tonnes of oxygen for four months.
  • All parties also resolved to prioritize the requirement of oxygen for the State and other states.
  • Oxygen manufactured from the plant would be given for medical purposes to the hospitals free of cost.
