1. World Press Freedom Day: 3rd May
- World Press Freedom Day is being observed every year on 3rd May globally to discuss journalistic ethics and to celebrate journalists who gave their lives in the pursuit of truth.
- The day was proclaimed by UN General Assembly in December 1993, after the recommendation of UNESCO's General Conference.
- The day also celebrates anniversary of Declaration of Windhoek
- Theme 2021: Information as a Public Good
- 2021 Global Conference is hosted by UNESCO and Govt of Namibia.

2. LIC among 10 Most-Valuable Insurance Brand Globally
- London-based Brand Finance has released Brand Finance Insurance 100 report for 2021 identifying valuable and strongest insurance brands globally
- As per the report, Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) has emerged as 3rd strongest and 10th most valuable insurance brand
- Brand value of LIC increased to $8.65 billion in 2021
- China's ‘Ping An Insurance’ emerged as World’s most valuable insurance brand
- Italy’s Poste Italiane was at top in strongest insurance brands category

3. Anand Mahindra launches Project ‘Oxygen on Wheels’
- Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra has rolled out a project titled as ‘Oxygen on Wheels’ to ease the transportation of oxygen from plants to hospitals and homes, following acute oxygen shortage
- It will bridge the gap between oxygen production and its transportation in India
- Mahindra has lined up around 70 Bolero pickup trucks to connect oxygen producers with hospitals and homes
- The project is being implemented through Mahindra Logistics.

4. T Rabi Sankar named as Deputy Governor of RBI
- RBI’s executive director T Rabi Sankar has been named as the 4th Deputy Governor of RBI
- He will succeed B P Kanungo, who retired on April 2
- He is in charge of the payments system, fintech, information technology and risk management at the RBI.
- Other deputy governors of RBI: Mahesh Kumar Jain, Michael Patra and Rajeshwar Rao
- Apart from serving in RBI, he was made the chairman of Indian Financial Technology and Allied Services (IFTAS) in June 2020

5. National Shooter Chandro Tomar passes away
- National Shooter Chandro Tomar (89 years) passed away due to COVID-19 in a hospital in Meerut
- She was nicknamed as ‘Shooter Dadi’
- She hails from Baghpat village in Uttar Pradesh
- She was 60-plus when she picked up the gun for the first time but went on to win many national competitions for veterans
- ‘Saand ki Aankh’ movie was based on her life.
- She won many awards in senior citizen category including Stri Shakti Sanman presented by the President of India

6. NATO Military Exercises Launched in Albania
- North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has launched joint military exercises ‘DEFENDER-Europe 21’ in Albania with thousands of military forces from US and other countries
- It is first such large-scale drills since World War II in Western Balkans
- Albania is playing a critical part in the DEFENDER-Europe 21 exercise with Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore operations taking place
- 26 nations will conduct nearly simultaneous operations across more than 30 training areas

7. Assam string puppetry performs COVID campaign for revival
- COVID-19 has provided an Assam-based trust the opportunity to focus on a near-forgotten form of puppetry called as Putola Nach.
- This string puppetry of Assam is performed in three areas with distinct characteristics:
- Barpeta-Nalbari in western Assam
- Kalaigaon in northern Assam
- Majuli island in eastern Assam.
- It basically showcases Ramayana, either in its entirety or by episodes and Mahabharata
- It takes chants from bhaona, local traditional theatre

8. US approves sale of six P-8I patrol aircraft to India
- US State Dept has approved the proposed sale of six P-8I patrol aircraft and related equipment to India at a cost of $2.42 billion
- Defence Acquisition Council, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, approved the procurement of long-range maritime surveillance aircraft manufactured by Boeing in November 2019.
- P-8I is based on the Boeing 737 commercial aircraft and India was its first international customer.

9. India invited to foreign ministers meet of G7 countries
- India has been invited to foreign ministers meet of G7 countries as a guest nation
- External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will embark on a 4-day visit to London to participate in a meeting of foreign ministers of G7 countries.
- G-7 nations meet at annual summits that are presided over by leaders of member countries on a rotational basis
- G-7 nation: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK, and US
- G-7 does not have a formal constitution or a fixed headquarters

10. Sanjay Kumar Mohanty take charges as new Member of Railway Board
- Sanjay Kumar Mohanty (1984 batch of Indian Railways Traffic Service) has taken over the charge as new Member (Operations & Business Development) Railway Board (Ministry of Railways) and Ex. Officio Secretary to Government of India with effect from 1st May 2021
- He was General Manager, South Eastern Railway prior to his elevation to the post of Railway Board Member.
- He is an alumnus of Delhi School of Economics
- He worked in various important posts in Indian Railways

11. Indian Bank signs MoU with BSNL for seamless telecom services
- Indian Bank has signed an MoU with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to provide seamless telecom services to the bank at a competitive rate.
- It will provide access to latest technologies at great competitive rates.
- Indian bank is already using services of BSNL and MTNL for its Wide Area Network across the country
- It will connect 5,000 branches and ATMs of Indian Bank
- Indian Bank's HQs: Chennai.
